PHS boys qualify for state in four events

Two members of the PHS boys track and field team have qualified for the state meet.
Hayes Miller, a junior will compete in this Friday and Saturday’s MSHSAA Class 3 Track and Field Championships in three events, while Evan Pennewell, a freshman will compete in one.
During sectional competition in Montgomery City, Saturday, Miller placed in the top four in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters, while Pennewell did so in the Pole Vault.
The state meet will be held at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.
Miller finished:
second place in the 400 meters at 50.42, trailing only Normandy’s Maury Sullivan at 49.88;
third place in the 200 meters at 23.03, behind only Sullivan at 22.67 and Westminster Christian’s Robert Hines at 23.02; and
third place in the 100 meters at 11.55, behind only Hines at 11.44 and Lutheran St. Charles’ Michael Parr, Jr. at 11.54.
Pennewell too third place in the pole vault at 3.35 meters, t trailing only Macon’s Caelan Harland and Centralia’s Beau Gordon, both at the same height.
Also competing at sectionals were:
Gideon Bogue, sixth place in the 100 meters at 12.14;
Jose Juarez, sixth place in the shot put at 13.00 meters; and
the seventh place 4 x 400 meter relay team of Bogue, Marty Smyser, Caleb Juette and Miller at 3.39.49.
