Lady Panthers lose conference softball opener to Monroe City, 11-3

The PHS varsity softball team suffered an 11-3 loss in its first conference game of the season Thursday at Monroe City.
The host team scored four runs in the first inning and lead 7-0 before Palmyra scored two runs in the fourth.
Palmyra (4-4) committed seven errors to contribute to six unearned runs in the game despite holding Monroe City to six hits, three of which were doubles.
Kennedy Wilson had two of Palmyra’s six hits, while pitching the first three innings, giving up just two earned runs.
Hailey Kroeger also had two hits including a double while driving in one of the runs.
Monroe City’s Lucy Pratt pitched a complete game, string out 10 and walking none in earning the mound victory.
Palmyra earned a 12-1 win at LaPlata last Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs scored a first-inning run, but Palmyra tied the game in the third and then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.
Wilson pitched a four-hitter, giving up just one unearned run, while striking out eight and walking just two over the five-inning game.
Arizona Mitchell helped spark the offense by going 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI.
Tenlee Voss went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
Abbey Redd went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI.
JV goes 1-1
The junior varsity squad went 1-1 last week with a win at LaPlata and a loss at Monroe City.
The Lady Panthers scored two runs in the second and five in the third in earning a 7-2 win over LaPlata, Tuesday.
Arizona Mitchell pitched a four-inning, two hitter, giving up two unearned runs while striking out six.
Adyson Dorsey and Jerzey Ramey both hit doubles in the game.
Monroe City scored five in the first, three in the second and one in the third in handing Palmyra a 9-2 loss Thursday.
Madi Fessenden and Aira Hamilton had the only Palmyra hits, both singles.
