The PHS Panthers had their first lead of the season and were only one score behind visiting Macon going into the second half, hoping to bring some homecoming joy.
But the Tigers took over, scoring 29 unanswered third-quarter points in handing the Panthers (0-4, 0-2 CCC) a 49-14 loss.

Panther defenders trap the Macon quarterback during Friday’s homecoming game action.
Palmyra took the opening kickoff and drove the ball down field on six running plays and completing the 41-yard possession on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Marty Smyser III, who also converted a two-point run to give Palmyra an 8-0 lead.
Macon answered with three straight touchdowns, two in the first quarter and one midway through the second quarter to build a 20-8 lead.
But the Panthers answered the third score quickly when, on the next play from scrimmage, Smyser completed a pass in the flat to Aaron Ritchey, and the speedy receiver found a seam and sprinted untouched for 55-yards for the score which cut Macon’s lead to six with 7:45 left in the half.
Palmyra’s defense then stepped up to stop Macon on downs at their own seven yards to maintain the one-score deficit going into halftime.
But, unfortunately, after the homecoming queen crowning ceremonies, the game went out of control for the Panthers.
Palmyra stopped Macon on the first possession of the third quarter, only to see the Tigers score on their next four possessions of the quarter to force a continuous clock with four minutes left before the final quarter.
Macon’s balanced offense piled up 358 yards including 187 rushing and 171 passing yards. The Tigers also earned 17 first downs and converted on eight of 18 third and fourth down attempts.

Palmyra’s Ethan Redd is chased by Macon defenders after catching a pass from Marty Smyser III.
Mickey Martie led the ground attack with 109 yards on 18 carries for one touchdown, while Isaac Kauffman added 59 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.
Senior quarterback, Mykel Linear completed nine of 18 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns.
Landen Cole lead Tiger receivers with six catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Palmyra had 159 yards of offense including 101 through the air and 58 on the ground.
The team converted just three of 16 third and fourth-down attempts.
Smyser completed nine of 16 passes for one touchdown while being picked off twice.
Ritchey had four catches for 71 yards, and Ethan Redd four catches for 20 yards.
Ashton Hankins led the rushing attack with 41 yards on 11 carries.
Brett Tuter and Ryan McKeown led the defense with 7.5 and five tackles respectively.
Palmyra will stay home this Friday to take on Brookfield, which comes into the contest 1-3, 0-2 in the Clarence Cannon Conference.
The Bulldogs opened the season with a 29-8 loss to Trenton before earning their only victory, 24-14 at Marceline.
Since then, they’ve lost to South Shelby, 46-30, and Centralia, 42-8.
