Substitute teachers for Marion County R-II will be making more money following action by the R-II Board of Education at their meeting recently.
The board approved raising the amount paid to substitute teachers to $90 a day without a certificate and $100 a day with a certificate.
Previous amounts were $75 and $80.
Superintendent Jason Keilholz noted that while some days the school struggles to get a substitute, the district as a good list of approved candidates.
“We just felt like we needed to increase pay to stay competitive with neighboring districts,” he said.
In other business, the board reviewed and updated the “Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.”
“We took out some language that had some dates in that were no longer valid and replaced it with open ended language that did not have dates,” Keilholz said, noting that reviewing and updating the plan keeps the district in compliance in order to receive ESSER Funds.
