The Palmyra Area Ministerial Alliance is kicking off the annual Adopt-A-Child program and the community’s help is being sought.
The Adopt-A-Child is a Christmas assistance program specifically designed to help out families with young children in need in the Palmyra R-1 and Marion County R-II school districts.
Each year the Adopt-A-Child program serves families in need and tries to make their Christmas more meaningful by providing for them gifts for children, basic clothing, toiletry items, and a food gift.
Applications are now available at the Palmyra R-I & Marion County R-2 schools, and Palmyra Zion Lutheran Church. The applications must be postmarked no later than Nov. 1 to be considered for assistance.
“As you can imagine, one of the biggest ways you can help is financially,” said Susan Schwanke, the program organizer, noting that monetary donations for this year’s Adopt-A-Child program are due by Dec. 1.
“However, we will accept your donation at any time,” Schwanke said.
To help out with a financial donation to Adopt-A-Child and the ministries of the PAMA, make checks payable to, PAMA, Adopt-A-Child, c/o Zion Lutheran Church, 210 South Spring Street, Palmyra, Mo. 63461.
All donations are tax-deductible.
In mid-November there will be Angel Trees placed around the community. The trees will be in various locations and each tree will have Christmas ornament tags on them that represent a child, and the particular gift for that child.
Persons can purchase the gift, wrap it with the Christmas ornament tag securely attached to the outside of the gift and return the gift to the Angel Tree from where the ornament was taken. Gift certificates and gift cards, will not be accepted.
To adopt a family this year, go to the Zion Lutheran Church basement Wednesday, Nov. 16, between 6 and 7 p.m.
Those unable to attend, but would still wanting to adopt a family should contact Schwanke at 573-795-6055 or Zion Lutheran Church at 573-769-2739.
The gift distribution will take place at the St Joseph Catholic Church (Farischon Hall) Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Last year, 37 families was assisted through the program.
“The PAMA would like to thank you in advance for all that you do and for all that you have done in the past to help support this ministry and all the ministries of the PAMA,” Schawnke said. “We are looking forward to working with you again this year to help bring Jesus to families in need in our communities.”
