The PHS boys cross country team took third at the Brian T. Simpson Invitational meet at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia Saturday.
The Panthers scored 104 points to finish behind only North Platte, 58, and Bishop LeBlond, 81, but ahead of Russellville, 111, South Callaway, 118, Smithton, 139, Salisbury, 172, New Bloomfield, 200, Westran, 217, Bourbon, 234, and Tipton, 291.
Connor Bross led the team with an 11th place finish out of 114 runners in a time of 18:43.52.
Also competing were: Jacob Barnes, 17th, 19:08.58; Carter Harper, 31st, 19:35.67; Ashton Lovegreen, 53rd, 21:09.73; and Wesley Summers, 61st, 21;46.54.
In girls competition, Palmyra’s Alyssa Noland took 10th place out of 90 runners in a time of 21:24.83.
Also competing were: Maiya Reese, 18th, 22:17.26; Tiffany Neff, 54th, 26:18.09; and Lillian Cramlett, 67th, 27:21.64.
The boys team also took third place at the Clarence Cannon Conference meet at Clark County’s Twin Oaks Golf Course Oct. 3
The Panthers scored 75 points to finish behind Centralia, 35 and Macon, 58.
Bross led the Panthers with a 13th place finish out of 41 runners in a time of 18:48.9.
Also competing from Palmyra were: Barnes, 20th, 19:43.9; Harper, 22nd, 20:22.0; Summers, 29th, 22:17.5; and Lovegreen, 31st, 22:34.8.
South Shelby’s Noah Wilt won the boys’ competition in a time of 17:02.7.
The Palmyra girls did not qualify for a team score with just four runners, but Noland finished seventh out of 39 runners in a time of 21:49.2.
Also running were: Reese, 14th, 22:40.9; Neff, 27th, 25:57.8; and Cramlett, 32nd, 28:13.4.
Centralia’s Jozelynn Bostick won the competition in a time of 19:40.2.
Palmyra runners also competed in the Tom Oakley Invitational in Quincy, Ill. Bob Mays Park Oct. 1.
Barnes led the boys with a 31st place finish out of 80 runners in a time of 18:59.
Also competing were Harper, 38th, 19:37 and Lovegreen, 56th, 21:16.
Girls competing were Neff, 45th out of 58, 26:21 and Cramlett, 48th, 26:24.
Palmyra also competed in the Gans Creek Classic Sept. 24 at the Gans Creek Cross County Course in Columbia along with 32 other teams from across the state.
Boys competing were: Bross, 53rd out of 251 runners, 18:37.9; Barnes, 86th, 19:40.1; Harper, 127th, 20:21.2; Lovegreen, 188th, 21:42.5; and Summers, 197th, 22:00.3.
Girls competing were Noland, 10th out of 163, 21:23.2 and Neff, 121st, 26:36.0.
The Palmyra teams will compete in Class 3, District 3 districts Oct. 29 at Fulton along with teams from Blair Oaks, Bowling Green, Centralia, Father Tolton Regional Catholic, Fatim, Fulton, Hallsville, John Burroughs, Macon, MICDS, Montgomery County, Normandy Collaborative, North Callaway, Orchard Farm, Owensville, Priory, Southern Boone, St. Charles Wes, STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley, Winfield and Wright City High School
The Class 1-3 State meet will be held at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia Nov. 5.
