Who will you nominate for the 2022 Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year and Volunteer of the Year?
Your input is essential in helping the Palmyra Chamber of Commerce recognize those who give so much to our community at the chamber’s Annual Awards Banquet which will take place Jan. 12, 2023.
If you need some help getting started, nominating criteria and guidelines are available at http://www.showmepalmyra.com/chamber.html and in print form at the Chamber office, the Palmyra Spectator and City Hall.
Nominations for Educator of the Year don’t have to be for a teacher but may be for any individual who positively guides youth or trains others.
The first Citizen of the Year recipient was Corbyn Jacobs in 1991. The 2021 Citizen of the Year was Glenn Griesbaum.
In 2001, the first Educator of the Year award was presented to Luella Powell; the 2021 Educator of the Year was Kirt Malone, then superintendent of the Palmyra R-1 School District.
A Volunteer of the Year award was added in 2011 with the first awardees being the Palmyra Food Pantry initiators Sharon Wommack and Bev Murphy. Dustin Rife, who started the Palmyra Youth Wrestling Club, received the Volunteer of the Year recognition last year.
As in the past, the Palmyra Chamber Board of Directors will select the recipients for the Business Hall of Fame and the Paint Brush Award, the latter for a business that has really improved its looks and added that “something extra” to our community.
All recipients will be announced at the Palmyra Chamber’s Annual Banquet, Jan. 12.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, Dec. 6.
