The PHS varsity girls basketball team opened the season with an impressive 65-35 win at home over Elsberry last Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers came out with a strong defense and opportunistic offense in building a 31-12 halftime lead that took most of the drama out of the contest.
An aggressive full-court press and relentless half-court defense resulted in Palmyra holding the visitors to a single field goal.
Eight Lady Panthers contributed to the offense that included a barrage of eight three-pointers.

Candra King, the team’s junior post player, flourished in the paint where she pulled down 10 rebounds and scored a game-high 16 points.
Meanwhile, Clare Williams, a sophomore point guard, sank five of eight three-point attempts for 15 points while notching five steals.
Also scoring in double figures were Taytum White, who sank two treys and scored 12 points, and Sydney Compton, who sank six of eight free throws in scoring 10 points.
Abbey Redd added five points, and Ashley Bode came off the bench to score five.
The Lady Panthers are scheduled to travel to Mark Twain, Tuesday, and Canton, Friday, before competing in the Monroe City Tournament the following week.
