Sales tax continues to be strong in Marion County although December’s numbers are slightly below last years.
The Marion County Commission reviewed sales tax and fund balances during Monday’s meeting, at which they also heard an update from Chariton Valley.
Sales tax for the General Revenue budget came in at $221,618.16 for December, which is less than the $228,361.42 at this time in 2021.

The monthly budget report also continues to show funds in good shape for the year.
In other business, the county visited with Chariton Valley, which reported their goal is to have the main line completed by the end of the year.
The representatives acknowledged there is a problem with service on Sundays, but they are working to fix that.
Mike Schaefer, county highway supervisor, reported Chariton Valley trucks had torn up County Road 230 pretty badly, but the county guys were going ahead and working to fix it as there is a chance for rain this week.
Chariton Valley indicated that issue would be discussed with their contractors.
The county also approved the contract with Ivan Schroeder for legal consulting for 2023.
