The Palmyra R-I Board of Education reviewed survey results and hired a new fourth grade teacher during their recent board retreat.
The retreat, held on Saturday, Dec. 3, was conducted by former Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) Director Roger Kurtz.
The board and administrative team were taken through statistical data gathered by Kurtz and R-I Superintendent Jason Harper.
The board and administrative team also went through all survey results and comments that were recently gathered.
The district surveyed students in grades three through 12, certified teachers, support staff, administration, parents and community members.
The surveys helped identify priority areas that will help the administrative team and board with short and long-term planning.
Areas discussed included district/community communications, safety and security, professional development for staff, facilities, additional personnel, instructional needs, mentoring for new teachers and staff compensation and benefits.
In addition to discussing the survey results, the board also approved hiring Hannah Wiegers as a new fourth grade classroom teacher. She will start her teaching duties on Jan. 4, 2023.
The board also hired two paraprofessionals for the elementary school, Tiffany Miller and Susie Marsh.
