The PHS varsity girls basketball team opened Clarence Cannon Conference play with a 63-48 win at home over Centralia Friday.

A strong start was the key for the Lady Panthers (12-3, 1-0 CCC) built an 18-14 lead and went into halftime up by 12.
Candra King scored 14 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, while Clare Williams logged 12 of her 15 points before the break.
King shot 11-of-18 from the floor while collecting six rebounds, while Williams was 6-of-9 from floor including 3-of-4 from outside the arc.

Taytum White sank two three-pointers and scored 13 points, while Sydney Compton added seven points and Abbey Redd, two.
Palmyra also defeated Kirksville, 48-41, at home last Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers struggled for most of the first half and trailed by nine at the break, but reversed things in the second half, going on a 32-16 run to win going away.
After contributing just two points in the first half, Compton found the touch to score 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half that included 12 points during the team’s 18-7 third quarter run.
The sophomore also contributed six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
White scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Redd scored five points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists, and King pulled down 10 rebounds, dished out two assists and scored six points.
Williams scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and gave out four assists.
For the game, Palmyra collected 44 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers are competing in their home tournament this week.
