The Marion County R-II girls basketball team went into this week’s Brashear Tournament after falling to Knox County and Silex this past week.

The Lady Mustangs (3-17) ended the week with a Saturday afternoon loss to Silex, 50-37.

Silex moved out to a 24-9 first quarter lead to power their victory.

Scoring for Marion County were Grace Jensen-Page, 10, Kennedy Hathaway, nine, Aylah Pollard, five, Riley Holt, five, Sam Kindhart, five, and Tristen Holt, three.

The Lady Mustangs could not hold on in a 51-43 loss at Knox County last Monday.

Marion County got out to an 11-9 lead, went into halftime up by four and carried a six-point edge into the final quarter.

However, Knox County went on 16-10 run to put the game into overtime and out-scored the Lady Mustangs, 12-4.

Brianna Miller and Savannah Strange both hit big three-pointers in the extra period to help sink Marion County.

Miller ended up hitting four shots from outside the arc in leading her team with 16 points.

Hathaway led all scorers with 19 points, and was followed on the team by Tristen Holt, eight, Jensen-Page, six, Pollard, five, Kindhart, three, and Riley Holt, two.

Marion County shot 12 of 21 from the line, while Knox Conty was 10 of 17.

The fifth-seeded Lady Mustangs were to open this week’s  Brashear Tournament Tuesday against the fourth-seeded North Missouri Home School Association.

They finish the regular season at home against Canton, Feb. 14.

The Class 1, District 11 Tournament will be held in LaPlata  Feb. 20-25 and include Marion County, LaPlata, Atlanta, Bevier, Brashear, North Shelby and Novinger.
