The Marion County R-II boys basketball team fell short of an upset district win, losing by four to Novinger in the quarterfinals Monday at LaPlata.
The fifth-seeded Mustangs (9-16) trailed fourth-seeded Novinger by three going into the final quarter, and scored 19 points, but it was not enough.
Wyatt Goldinger led the late charge sinking a three-pointer and five other field goals to score 14 of his team-high 25 points in final period.
Meanwhile, Wesley Findling scored 13 of his 23 points to lead Novinger’s fourth-quarter offense.
Also scoring for Marion County Monday were Joey Lagemann, 11, Jackson Stewart, nine, Porter Britt, eight, and Caden Stotts, three.
Novinger advanced to the semifinals and lost, 61-49, to top-seeded Atlanta which won the title game, 70-50, over third-seeded Brashear.
