The Panther offense was all but squelched in a 39-22 loss to South Shelby in the Class 3, District 6 championship game Friday in Monroe City.
The Panthers managed just three-first half field goals and only nine for the game, as the Cardinals ended Palmyra’s season while advancing to sectionals.

Palmyra’s Bear Bock (center) and Ethan Redd battle for the ball under the basket against South Shelby.
Bear Bock sank two first quarter field goals, and Bronson Juette, one, while Drew Copenhaver put in one free throw as the Panthers fell behind 18-7.
Yet Palmyra was still well within striking distance going into the second half, thanks to the Cardinals missing numerous opportunities to widen the margin early on.
But the Panther comeback never materialized with Bock sinking the team’s only three field goals in the third quarter while South Shelby answered them all.
The Cardinals finished the Panthers off with a 13-8 run down the stretch.
Bock ended up scoring all but eight of the Panther’s points with the only other contributions coming from Tyler Banta, three, Ryan McKeown, two, Juette, two and Copenhaver, one.
The Cardinals advanced to Class 3 Sectional play and were to play Lutheran North Monday in Hannibal.
The 22 total points Friday tied the team’s lowest total for the season in a 59-22 loss to Burlington in the River Rivalry, Dec. 17.
Palmyra scored 30 more points two days before the title game in a 52-30 semifinal win over the host team Wednesday.
Both teams scored eight first-quarter points before Palmyra pulled ahead with a 14-4 run before the half.
The Panthers maintained their advantage by out-scoring Monroe City, 30-18 in the second half.
Carson Hicks helped fuel the second half dominance by scoring 12 of his team-high 16 points after the break.
Also scoring were Banta, 13, Bock, 12, Copenhaver, six, Jacob Barnes, three, and Ethan Redd, two.
