Arrest made following Taylor burglary, arson

A California man is facing arson and burglary charges in Marion County in connection with an incident at a gas station in Taylor Wednesday.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, arrest warrants for second degree arson and second degree burglary were issued for Shawn, R. Stankewitz of California.
He was being held in Illinois and was awaiting extradition to Marion County.
The arrest warrant was issued following an investigation of an incident Wednesday at the Sunoco Gas Station at 8460 U.S. 24 at Taylor.
The sheriff’s office received an alarm call early that morning, and upon arrival, saw that a fire had developed inside of the business.
After further investigation, it was determined the business was burglarized followed by the suspect setting fire to the convenience store.
No injuries were reported with this incident. Among the items taken from the convenience store were a substantial amount of Missouri Lottery tickets.
The sheriff’s office worked with the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office during the investigation.
