Dorothy R. Yackley

Dorothy R. Yackley, 96, Durham, Mo., died on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.  

Dorothy was born on Feb. 8, 1927, in Easton, Mo., a daughter of Philip and Josephine (Bucher) Kneib.

She met her husband Ernest E. Yackley in Jacksonville, Fla., where he was stationed while serving in the U.S. Navy.  They were married Oct. 27, 1956, in Jacksonville, and had celebrated 63 years together when Ernie preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2020. 

Prior to retiring, Dorothy had worked as a bookkeeper at McLaughlin Auto and H&R Block, both in Quincy.

She was of the Catholic faith, and was a previous member of the former St. Boniface Catholic Church in Quincy and recently of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, Mo.

Dorothy and Ernie loved to travel, and prior to his passing spent several winters in Florida. Dorothy most loved being outdoors. She enjoyed the farming life and gardening. She had a yard full of flowers.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Katherine Watts, and her husband, Duane, St. Louis, Mo.; two grandsons, Daniel Watts and his wife, Madeline, Ellisville, Mo.; and Thomas Watts, Austin, Texas; a sister, JoAnn King, St. Joseph, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Robert and Francis Kneib; four sisters, Mary Rose Mabie, Helen VanCleave, Marguerite Eiberger and Rita Welsh; and a sister in infancy, Elizabeth Kneib.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in the Apostolic Church Cemetery in Taylor, Mo. 

Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Church of St. Peter. 

Memorials are suggested to Quincy University or Quincy Notre Dame High School.
