The American Legion Auxiliary, Boots-Dickson Post 174 has selected four girls from the Palmyra R-I and Marion County R-II school districts to attend Missouri Girls State 2023.

Shayleigh Whetstone
The four are Shayleigh Whetstone, Maggie Keim, Ava Weiman and alternate, Katherina Mehling.
Whetstone, who attends Marion County R-II High School, is the daughter of Henry and the late Nicole Whetstone.
Keim, who attends Palmyra R-I High School, is the daughter of Gregory and Kathy Keim.
Weiman, who attends Palmyra R-I High School, is the daughter of David and Alicia Weiman.
Mehling, a junior member of ALA, is the daughter of Luke and Rebecca Mehling.
The 81st session of ALA Missouri Girls State will be held June 24 through July 1, on the Lindenwood University Campus in St. Charles, Mo.
ALA Missouri Girls State is an intensive week of government study and Americanism training sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Americanism is defined as allegiance to the United States, including our country’s traditions and ideals.
Attendees will be citizens of mock cities and counties. A state government is formed and elections held.
The goal being each citizen will better understand the function of government and the responsibilities of citizens and elected officials.
