The Marion County R-II baseball team has a cast of returning starters and up-and-coming players heading into the spring season.
Already penciled into the line-up are returning starters: senior, Cannon Wolfe; junior, Jackson Stewart; and sophomores, Nick Kelso, Root Cheney, Joey Lagemann and Porter Britt.
“Other starting roles are still up for grabs,” said Coach Henry Whetston. “I expect a lot of leadership roles from the returning starters.”
Whetstone will have to replace some pitching due to graduation.
“I have several guys who I expect quality innings out of such as Cheney, Stewart, Lagemann, Britt and Jonathan Goodwin (a junior).
“We also have several other players who are in progress who I believe we will see some innings this year such as Paden Olson (freshman) and Wyatt Tuley (freshman).
Also on the roster are junior, Shawn Martin; sophomores, Riley Baldwin, Mason Wood, Caden Stotts and Mac Keilholz; and freshmen, Nathana Wright and Colton Swisher.
The Mustangs have been assigned to Class 1, District 13 along with Atlanta, Bevier, Brashear, La Plata, Macon County and North Shelby.
The Mustangs were scheduled to start the season this past Friday at Mark Twain and have their home opener Tuesday against Knox County.
They are also scheduled to play at home this Thursday against Community and travel to Atlanta, Friday.
