After some iffy weather the PHS boys varsity golf team finally got the season started last Tuesday against Centralia and Monroe City at the Norwoods golf course in Hannibal.
The Panthers took second place with 361, two strokes behind Centralia and 51 ahead of Monroe City.
“I was overall pleased for our first match of the year,” said Coach Steven Jones. “We have areas to work on, but, overall, I was proud of how we competed.”
Palmyra’s Jonas Janes took runner-up honors with an 83.
Also scoring were Skeeter Kroeger, 91, Aaron Ritchey, 92, and Preston Fuget, 95.
Tony White and Abram Smyser shot 96s, but their scores were dropped.
The Panthers have been assigned to Class 2, District 2 this season along with Bowling Green, Christian, Clark County, Duchesne, Elsberry, Hermann, Highland, Lutheran St. Charles, Maplewood-Richmond Hts., Missouri Military Academy, Monroe City, Montgomery County, North Callaway, South Callaway and South Shelby.
