The Marion County R-II baseball team earned their first victory of the season in going 1-3 last week.
The Mustangs (1-6) broke into the win column last Monday with a 13-1, home victory over Van-Far.
Marion County banged out nine hits and took advantage of seven walks and five Van-Far errors to score three runs in the first, three in the second, four in third and three in the fourth.
Meanwhile Joey Lagemann, Jackson Stewart and Root Cheney shared the pitching and held the opponents to two hits and one unearned run over five innings, combining to strike out nine while walking seven.
Hitting stars were:
Lagemann, 3-for-3 with a stolen base and three runs scored;
Cheney, 3-for-3 with a double, three stolen bases, five RBI and two runs scored; and
Paden Olson, 3-for-3 with three runs scored; and
Stewart, 3-for-4 with a stolen base, four runs scored and one RBI.
The Mustangs took a 17-7 loss at home to Green City, Wednesday.
Marion County took a 2-0 lead into the third inning when the Gophers rallied for five runs and then added two in the fourth, two in the fifth four in the sixth and four in the seventh to win going away.
The Mustangs scored their two runs in the first when Lagemann hit a lead off home run and Cheney drove in Stewart with a double.
Cheney hit a solo shot in the third, and the Mustangs scored their final four runs in the fourth on doubles by Porter Britt and Nick Kelso and singles by Lagemann, Stewart, and Nathan Wright.
Marion County was out-hit 10-9, but committed eight fielding errors that led to four unearned runs.
Marion County also hosted a triangular Saturday, and lost both games, 17-0, to LaPlata and, 16-6, to Atlanta.
Game details were not made available for this issue.
This week, the Mustangs were scheduled to host Brashear, Monday, before traveling to North Shelby, Tuesday.
