The Palmyra R-I School District announced Kelsey Stuart as the new PHS varsity girls basketball coach.
Stuart comes to Palmyra from the Lafayette County C-I School District in Higginsville, Mo., where she coached for six years, including the last year as head coach of the varsity girls basketball team.

Despite low numbers and injuries, Stuart guided the Lady Huskers to a district title game for the first time in six years and was awarded the Class 3 District 14 Coach of the Year honors.
Stuart is originally from the Concordia, Mo., where she graduated high school while playing basketball, softball and many other extracurricular activities.
After high school, she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in special education: cross categorical disabilities at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
She continued her education by graduating from the University of Kansas with a master’s of science degree in secondary special education and transition services.
She most recently graduated from the University of Central Missouri with an education specialist degree in administration.
Stuart has been teaching in the special education setting for the last six years at Lafayette County High School.
She said she is passionate about student growth and building positive relationships with students, staff members, parents and community members, and is excited to meet with her new students and colleagues at Palmyra School District.
Stuart has been coaching basketball for a total of nine years.
She started her coaching career with fifth and sixth grade girls basketball at the Concordia R-2 School District, as well as girls at the middle school level.
Once she moved to the Lafayette County School District, she began coaching at the high school level for the next six years where she also coached youth boys basketball for her son’s team.
