The Taylor Post Office has received permission from the United States Postal Service to relocate their services to the new fire house being built in Taylor.
The location will be 175 County Road 313, Taylor, Mo.
According to a letter from Benjamin P. Kuo, vice president of facilities from the USPS, “if this location is not adequate or an agreement cannot be reached with the fire department, the Postal Service will consider other sites.”
The Taylor Post Office is needing to relocate because of “structural and safety concerns” at the current building, located at 250 County Road 313 in Taylor.
“The Postal Service anticipates providing the same services at the new location as were provided to our customers at the previous location,” Kuo notes in the letter.
Services will continue to be operated at the Palmyra Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operational as a post office.
Prior to making its decision, USPS asked for and considered community input on the matter.
“The Postal Service operations are not supported by tax dollars,” said Kuo. “To be self-sustaining, the Postal Service must make decisions that ensure it provides adequate and affordable postal services in a manner that is as efficient and economical as possible.”
