Lady Panthers finish fifth in CCC softball

The PHS varsity softball team completed Clarence Cannon Conference play with an 11-1 loss at home to Centralia last Thursday.
The visitors scored three in the first, one in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth and two in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
Palmyra managed just two hits against Centralia’s Kaelyn Walters, fourth inning singles by Lexie Peuster and Hailey Kroeger that helped produce Palmyra’s lone run.
Arizona Mitchell pitched all five innings for Palmyra which finished 3-4 and in fifth place in the conference.
The victory for Centralia capped the team’s undefeated conference title.
The Lady Panthers also lost at home to Troy-Buchanan, 14-1, the day before.
Troy scored three in the first, two in the second four in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth before winning by the 10-run rule.
Palmyra managed just five hits including a double by Peuster, two singles by Bella McBride and singles by Kroeger and Alaina Loman.
Riley Sutter and Marney Plunkett shared pitching duties.
The Lady Panthers got out to a 4-1 lead at Canton last Monday, but could not hold on in a 7-4 loss.
Singles by Peuster and McBride, along with Canton fielding errors led to Palmyra’s two-run first inning.
Canton responded with single runs in the first and second, but Palmyra answered in the third when Kroeger hit a two-run double, driving in Loman and Jerzey Ramey.
But Canton tied the game with two runs in the fourth and pulled ahead with one in the fifth and two in the sixth while blanking Palmyra the rest of the way.
Peuster and Kroeger each had two hits to lead Palmyra’s eight-hit attack.
Mitchell pitched a complete game for Palmyra.
Palmyra also lost at Moberly, 12-8, Saturday. Details were not available for this issue.
Palmyra was to complete the regular season at home against Hannibal, Monday before competing in districts starting this Thursday.
JV action
The junior varsity squad lost its two games to Centralia and Canton last week.
The Lady Panthers ended the week with an 9-0 loss to Centralia, Thursday.
Palmyra managed just three hits, a double by Plunkett and singles by Caydence Deming and Grace Scifres.
Canton got out to a 3-0 lead and defeated Palmyra 5-3.
Deming led Palmyra’s seven-hit offense with two singles. Jenna Webb hit a double and Plunkett, Adyson Dorsey and Sophie Hicks had singles.
