The Marion County R-II boys basketball team turned up the offense for a 70-44 season opening win at home over Paris Friday.
Leading by five going into the second period, the Mustangs went on a 24-12 surge to take control of the game, and ended the contest with a 20-12 run.
It was the most points a Mustang team has scored since Jan. 15, 2022, when they scored 81 points in a 91-81 overtime loss to Canton.
Joey Lagaemann scored a game-high 25 points for Marion County, including 12 points in the team’s second-quarter rally.
Wyatt Goldinger sank six of eight free throws and two three points in scoring 18.
Five other Mustangs contributed to the offense including Jackson Stewart, who sank three treys for nine points, Caden Stotts, seven, Mason Wood, five, Porter Britt, five, and Gavin Handy, one.
The Mustangs sank 10 three pointers out of 24 field total field goals and hit 12 of 17 free throws.
Walter Rucker lead Paris with 18 points.
This week the Mustangs were scheduled to host North Shelby Tuesday before the Thanksgiving break.
