The Marion County Commission renewed its contract for legal services for another year and discussed a property and liability insurance quote during a short regular meeting Wednesday.
County Clerk Marla Meyers presented the quote received by the county, a renewal from Travelers Insurance that will cost the county an additional $55,000 for the year coming year.
Meyers said the rising costs were due to claims, and the renewal includes a lowering of coverage.
Action on the quote was tabled until the next meeting, Wednesday, Jan. 3, when all three commissioners are expected to be present. Presiding Commissioner, David Lomax, was not present Wednesday.
Meyers and commissioners Larry Welch and Steve Begley, visited by phone with Carla Meyers, of First State Insurance, who is handling the insurance, to ask questions about the renewal proposal, which if approved would go into affect Jan. 1.
Discussed were options for more earthquake coverage and umbrella liability coverage, both of which have added costs above the current level.
“I think we’re going to have to keep the umbrella for safety sake,” Begley said.
Both commissioners voted in favor of renewing the contract for legal services with Ivan Schroeder.
