PALMYRA, Mo. – American Legion Post 174 held its March meeting on Wednesday, March 5, celebrating the 106th anniversary of the American Legion. While Boots-Dickson Post 174 will officially turn 106 in October 2025, members gathered early to commemorate the milestone. The American Legion Unit 174 Auxiliary provided a meal, followed by cake and ice cream in honor of the occasion.
Commander Davis Lomax conducted the opening ceremony, leading the meeting through the approval of minutes and financial reports. Chaplain Dale Elston offered the opening prayer, setting a solemn and respectful tone. Post Historian Nik Yager presented a historical tribute to Barker Bronstein (U.S. Army), a LaGrange, Missouri native who was killed in action on March 1, 1945, in Germany.
Sergeant-at-Arms Ray Fessenden reported that no Funeral Honors were conducted in February. Service Officer Tom Lockett provided updates on veterans served and reminded members that Boy’s State applications are due by March 17, with the event scheduled for June 21-28 in St. Charles, MO.
The post also confirmed plans for the Third Annual Veterans Widows Honors event, though the date and time have yet to be determined.
The next American Legion Post 174 meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. Both the Post and Auxiliary Unit 174 meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Members and the community are encouraged to attend and continue supporting local veterans and their families.
