The Maple Lawn Auxiliary met Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the special dining room. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Debbie Potterfield. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Gem of the Day was a quote from Jackson A. Brown: “Success is getting what you want. Happiness is liking what you get.”
Seven members answered roll call with their responses to the question, “What is your favorite kind of pie?”
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Teresa Mahsman and approved. Treasurer Ruth Hoehne gave the treasurer’s report, which was also approved. The bake sale on April 18 brought in $1,040.75.
The digital wheelchair scale has arrived and is being used. The total cost was $1,491.75, including shipping.
Andrew Salsman of the Maple Lawn Advisory Board reported that a car and truck show will be held outdoors at Maple Lawn on Saturday, May 17. Sponsorships are $25, and the entry fee is $5 per vehicle. Registration will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Maple Lawn Auxiliary members are needed to assist with the table, registration receipts and resident judging. Residents will cast their votes beginning at 12:30 p.m. The event is open to the public for both entries and voting. Andrew said, “Anything with wheels” can be entered. Proceeds will benefit the Maple Lawn Auxiliary fund for future projects.
The group voted to provide $250 for flowers and vegetables to be planted at the facility. They will also provide ice cream treats to staff members during Nursing Home Week, May 11–17.
Future Maple Lawn events include a trip to Maid-Rite, a purse sale, a Roaring ’20s event, and a simulated “Shopping in Downtown Palmyra” event.
A reminder was given that a yard and garage sale will be held at the Maple Lawn garage June 13–14. Setup will begin at 8 a.m. June 13. The sale will run from noon to 4 p.m. June 13 and from 7 a.m. to noon June 14. Items will be half price after 11 a.m. June 14.
For the program, Julia Sapp demonstrated diamond art. She said it is fun, creative and relaxing. It consists of using a stylus to place dots on a project. Julia makes coasters, bookmarks and larger items that resemble stained glass and can be framed.
The meeting was adjourned, and refreshments were served. The next meeting will be held Thursday, May 29, with Jennifer McGrath hosting.
