PALMYRA, Mo. — A routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 61 led to the arrest of a Keokuk, Iowa, woman and the seizure of a firearm and suspected narcotics, according to the Palmyra Police Department.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. on May 1, an officer stopped a vehicle for a lane violation on southbound Highway 61. During the stop, the officer observed signs of possible illegal activity and conducted a consent search of the vehicle.
The search uncovered a loaded firearm and approximately 47 grams of suspected narcotics, including methamphetamine. The driver, identified as Karen S. Hoadley, 56, was arrested without incident.
Hoadley faces multiple charges, including unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree drug trafficking, endangering the welfare of a child, driving while suspended or revoked, and failure to maintain the right half of the roadway.
“This case highlights the importance of proactive policing in keeping our community safe,” said Chief of Police Michael L. Baker. “We remain committed to removing illegal drugs and firearms from our city.”
Hoadley is being held at the Marion County Jail pending formal charges from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
