Palmyra Varsity Panthers wrapped up a busy weekend with one win in three games, topping Dixon but falling to Hannibal and South Callaway.
The Panthers opened the stretch Friday with a 6-2 loss to Hannibal despite out-hitting their opponent 10-8. Raeson Miller and Tyler Spicknall each recorded two hits. RBI singles from Logan Kroeger and Brodie Webb gave Palmyra a brief lead in the third inning, but Hannibal struck back with a two-run double in the fourth and never trailed again. Webb took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs—four earned—across four innings. Rylan Compton pitched the opening two frames, striking out two and allowing one unearned run.
Palmyra bounced back Saturday with an 8-3 victory over Dixon. Compton led the charge at the plate with three RBIs, including a pair of run-scoring hits in the first and third innings. Webb and Kroeger also contributed RBIs. Ty Haskins delivered a complete-game win, striking out eight and giving up seven hits. Compton, Webb, Bryant Horstmeier and Miller each notched two hits as part of a 12-hit effort, and Cade Lehman stole two bases.
Later that day, the Panthers ran into trouble against South Callaway, who erupted for seven first-inning runs en route to a 13-3 defeat. Palmyra briefly held the lead after Compton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first. Colby Jones, who started on the mound, also delivered a two-RBI single in the third. He was charged with the loss after allowing 11 runs over three innings. Spicknall and Horstmeier paced the offense with two hits apiece, but Palmyra managed just five hits overall.
