This week I am going to share this experience of the weather with you. Rachel and I were in St. Louis visiting my friend the doctor again, and it was 2:30 p.m. We stopped at a fresh produce stand to buy fruit, and it was getting dark and only sprinkling, and we started home and stopped at a restaurant for lunch. The hail started, and it was like pure ice for about five minutes. Then it abruptly stopped, and there was just a small amount of rain with the storm. No one seemed to have car damage from the hail. Everything was beautiful after that. We did not know until that evening that we were not far from the intense storm where five people died from the storm. We have a lot to be thankful for and need to share prayers for the families of those injured or deceased.
The reviews are in the new restaurant in Maywood. All of the comments at church were that the food was excellent, great décor. friendly and good service. I plan to visit them this week with my family. We welcome them to the area and hope everyone will support their business, so they are successful.
South Union Baptist will be having a special Memorial Service next week during our service at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is always welcome to attend.
This is a reminder to us about the special Memorial Day services in the area that are meaningful. It is a suitable time to review some history with your children and why we have this service every year. Rember picking the peonies for flowers for graves, and how reverent as children we were at the cemetery, and everyone went as families. One thing I remember well is this is the time of year for homegrown strawberries and homemade ice cream! Next week I am writing about Maywood graduations, and it is hard to believe what was happening over 100 years ago in Maywood.
Highland High school track teams had a successful sectional meet, and several are going to the State Track meet. Charlie Evans, the son of Eric and Heather Evans, of Maywood was part of three boys relay teams that are headed to State, and Hannah Ritterbusch, daughter of Kristen and Brian Ritterbusch of LaGrange and granddaughter of John and Christine Carter of Maywood, was part of a girls relay team that is headed to state. Congratulations to these local athletes!
Happy Anniversary to Rick and Mavoureen Meyer on May 20.
Memorial Day is a time to honor, reflect, and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
