Marion County’s Senior Citizen Property Tax Freeze program is currently in effect, but eligible residents must apply annually to receive the benefit.
The application deadline for this year is Friday, May 30.
Forms are available at both Marion County courthouses and online at www.marioncountymo.com, under the assessor’s page.
Applicants must submit the following documentation:
Proof of age 62 or older, such as a driver’s license, military ID, passport or birth certificate.
Proof of residency, typically a copy of the deed to the applicant’s homestead. Missouri law defines a homestead as the primary residence, up to five acres in size.
Proof of taxes paid, such as a copy of the previous year’s paid tax bill.
The application form must be signed in the presence of a notary public.
Those who applied for the tax freeze in a previous year can submit a one-page renewal form, which does not require notarization.
For more information, residents may contact the Marion County Assessor’s Office.
The Missouri Senior Property Tax Credit Program, established under Senate Bills 190 and 756, freezes real property taxes—not personal property taxes—for eligible senior homeowners. Applicants must be at least 62 years old, own and reside on a Missouri homestead of up to five acres, and submit documentation proving age, residence and ownership.
Applications are due annually by May 31. The initial form requires notarized documentation, while renewals are simpler. Forms will be available at Marion County courthouses and online later this year. Approved applicants will see a credit applied to their 2025 tax bill based on 2024 rates, with savings realized through capped increases, not refunds.
