The Maple Lawn Auxiliary met on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 1:30 PM in the Activity Room. The Gem of the Day was a recent incident told by Jennifer McGrath in which a 92-year-old man remembered her name. Jennifer said it means a lot when people remember your name. The roll call was answered by 12 members with something each is thankful for. The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The program was Avery Trower, current Miss Hannibal’s Teen, who won her title last November by competing against 10 other teens in several categories including interview, fitness, evening gown, and talent. Avery will be competing in the Miss Missouri Pageant to be held in June at Mexico, Mo. About 22 other young ladies will also be vying for the title. Avery will be a junior at Palmyra High School this fall. She hopes to attend college at either Mizzou or Tennessee with an emphasis on political science. Avery has won over $1000 in scholarships so far and is hoping to win more. Avery’s talent is singing and she will sing “Don’t Worry About a Thing” in the competition. This young lady is vivacious, intelligent, energetic, and personable. It was a pleasure to hear her talk about her future. We hope she goes far! Good luck, Avery!
Angie Walker was introduced to the group as the new Maple Lawn Administrator, replacing Kimberly Harris who had briefly served in that position.
The April minutes were read by Secretary Teresa Mahsman and were approved. Treasurer Ruth Hoehne gave the Treasurer’s report and it was also approved. The Car Show and barbecue held during Nursing Home Week brought in $650.
Don’t forget about the June 13-14 Garage/Yard Sale, which will be held in the garage area of Maple Lawn. Set up will start at 8 AM on June 13th with the sale going from noon to 4 PM that day. On Saturday, June 14, the sale will run from 7 to noon, with everything half price after 11 AM.
The improvements to A-wing are finished. The Auxiliary purchased 10 bedspreads for the unit and voted to purchase 10 more. There are currently 7 residents on A-wing and 65 total in the facility.
Improvements will be made this summer to the building’s sprinkler system. The air conditioning was recently upgraded, also.
Plans are being made to take a group of residents to a Cardinal baseball game on June 11. The Auxiliary voted to provide an extra $300 for this outing.
The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were enjoyed. Next month’s meeting will be held on June 26 at 1:30 PM at Maple Lawn and will be hosted by Debbie Potterfield.
