We are having weather in the 90’s now. Friday was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, so I guess the heat of summer has officially arrived. When you have three young grandsons, you realize how blessed you are. I now have a sincere appreciation for any parents with more than three children because my three grandsons are something else. They can be sweet, rascals, smart, and so joyful when the door opens and you hear, ”Hi Mew Maw.” We observed Children’s Day at church this morning, and it was a nice service for everyone. I have never heard of an adult that does not like to sing “Jesus Loves Me.”
We extend sympathy to our pastor at South Union Baptist and his wife, Sherrie in the loss of their great-granddaughter this past week in Oklahoma. They will be attending the memorial service on Saturday.
I had a wonderful week, but I am just tired now and have an excuse to rest. My sister, Alice Faye Shoemaker came from Douglasville, Georgia for a visit. She came to St. Louis and had assisted travel and said is was a wonderful experience going and coming. We had a great visit, and she was totally surprised by the restaurant in Maywood, and we had a visit there. We visited other relatives in the area.
On Tuesday I had a luncheon visit at Primo’s in Canton with my Brother-in-Law, Wendall Featherlin of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. His wife was the late Dorothy Featherlin, and she was Marvin’s sister. Joining us were Rachel Shepherd, Becky Fleer, and two of Becky’s grandchildren, Huntleigh and Emeric.
On Friday morning, my niece from West Virginia, Rebecca Mills, visited with her three sons, Cooper, and the twins, Evan and Will. Rebecca is the daughter of Jo Jones and the late Larry Jones of Maywood.
We need prayers for Mauvoreen Meyer as she has had some illness this week and is recovering. Tom Carter had difficult eye surgery and is now doing well and able to drive to church today.
Sharon Rathbun mentioned at church that her daughter Julianna had found a robin’s nest with a cowbird egg joining the robin’s eggs. Leave it to the cowbirds to subcontract their parenting to other birds!!
We are all asking what is going to happen to our world? Let us remember to pray for all of world leadership and that peace can be found. With July 4th coming up, it should remind us how much our freedom costs.
“Early summer days are a jubilee time for birds. In the fields, around the house, in the barn, in the woods, in the swamp—everywhere love and songs and nests and eggs.” — E.B. White
