In a few days it will be Fair time! (July 27-August 2) Where has the time gone? Just seems like yesterday the kiddos were dismissed for Summer vacation.
In searching for clips of some of the past fair events I found a couple articles in the “Daily Spectator 1898 September 26.”
” If you want a good square meal, cheap, patronize the dining hall at the fairgrounds , under the management of the ladies of the Christian Church.
You get your money’s worth and help a good cause at the same time.”
And on the same page was this article:
“Dry and pleasant weather prevailed yesterday and the attendance at the fair was if anything some larger as usual on the first day.
Both agricultural and floral halls were closed to visitors and the judges were busy making awards. The Agriculture hall will be in ship-shape order today, but it is hardly likely that complete order can be restored in the Floral Hall until Thursday. The exhibits in the arena were good and attracted much attention. There is a large number of particularly good horses on the grounds this year and the competition is spirited. “
One article caught my eye that did not pertain to the fair. I thought you might get a chuckle out of this:
1896-October 3 The Daily Spectator:
“A slick fraud is traveling around the country selling the owners of pianos a powder to keep the moth out of the pianos. The powder is nothing but salt, but people buy it readily as if it was a meritorious article.”
