Man, it has been another very hot week with no rain fall. According to the weather forecasters this week, at least up until Wednesday it is going to be very hot. However, I see there is some rain forecasted, hopefully we will get some because we are a bit on the dry side.
It is hard to believe that all local schools will be starting this week, some will start Monday August 18and others will begin on Wednesday August 20, where in the world did the Summer go, it flies by when you are having fun, right. So say a little prayer for all of the kids, teachers and any faculty going back to school this week.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Ed Olson who passed away on Friday August 15 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home where he was a resident for a short time. Arrangements are pending at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.
Mt Olivet Church had a wonderful turnout for the Ice Cream Social on Saturday night. The guys had grilled 120 hamburgers and 100 hot dogs and we ran out of them fairly quickly, which was a good thing. All the proceeds from the social, t-shirt sales, sales of the extra homemade ice cream and ice was all donated to the family of Miss Lillyjean Roberts to help with medical expenses, travel and food expenses going back and forth to St Louis for her cancer treatments. We live in an amazing community and it was fantastic to see the community come out and support this wonderful family.
Our community always comes out to support people in need. I want to personally thank everyone who helped with the icer cream social in any way.
Congratulations to Bella Perkins ( daughter of Carrie Story Thomas) and Jerry Cunningham( son of Rodney and Melissa Cunningham) who were united in marriage on Saturday August 16 in Canton at the Caldwell Building.
My mom (Jane Church), Aunt Judy Million and Aunt Mary Krekemeyer lost another cousin n law on Saturday August 16. Bill Cowan passed away at his home peacefully, in Union MO surrounded by his wife and children. Bill passed away after a lengthy illness of cancer. A few weeks ago, they lost Christina Albert who was a cousin n law of a lengthy illness of cancer.
Mt Olivet Church will hold its monthly board meeting on Thursday August 21 at 6:30 PM in the church basement. Last weeks meeting was cancelled due to some illness.
