MOBERLY, Mo. — The Palmyra Lady Panthers walked away from Saturday’s Moberly Invitational with more than just a 1–2 record — they came away battle-tested, bonded, and brimming with promise. Over the course of three intense games, the Lady Panthers experienced nearly every emotion the game of softball can offer: the grind of a tough loss, the energy of an offensive explosion, and the heartbreak of a walk-off.
Through it all, Palmyra’s lineup showed growth, resilience, and flashes of the championship-caliber play this group is chasing.
Game 1: Fifth-Inning Flurry Sinks Palmyra in Opener vs. North Shelby, 7–1
The Panthers opened their day against a fundamentally sound North Shelby team and matched them stride-for-stride through the early innings. Zola Grace Meyers gave Palmyra a chance in the circle, striking out six across four innings and allowing just one walk. But the Lady Raiders broke through in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run burst that proved to be the turning point in a 7–1 loss.
Palmyra managed six hits, but couldn’t find the timely ones they needed to keep pace. Meyers drove in the team’s lone run, while Jerzey Ramey, Avery Jo Wisehart, Morgan Pillars, Marney Plunkett, and Riley Sutter each chipped in a hit.
While the result stung, the Panthers played error-free defense and showed their trademark fight in every inning.
Highlights:
Zola Meyers: 4 IP, 6 K
6 different players recorded a hit
No errors in the field
Game 2: Ramey’s Career Day Powers 13–4 Win Over Owensville
Palmyra didn’t stay down for long.
In Game 2, the Lady Panthers came out swinging and never let up, fueled by a breakout performance from senior Jerzey Ramey, who drove in four runs and collected three hits, including an inside-the-park home run in the first inning.
Avery Wisehart, Claire Swisher, and Gentry Nadine Moon helped break the game open in a five-run fourth inning, while Preslee Rae Mitchell and Marney Plunkett added key hits to a relentless 14-hit team attack.
In the circle, Riley Sutter delivered a solid outing, going all five innings while striking out two and walking just two, keeping Owensville’s offense in check.
Highlights:
Jerzey Ramey: 3-for-3, 4 RBIs, inside-the-park HR
Preslee Mitchell: 3 hits
Wisehart, Moon: Multi-hit games
Swisher: 3 RBIs, triple
Sutter: 5 IP, 2 K
Double play turned by Palmyra defense
Game 3: Final-Inning Walk-Off Loss to Host Moberly, 12–11
In their final game of the day, Palmyra found themselves in a seesaw slugfest with host Moberly. After falling behind 10–5 early, the Lady Panthers mounted a furious comeback—tying the game in the fourth and briefly taking the lead in the fifth thanks to an RBI groundout by Riley Sutter.
But Moberly capitalized on a walk and a sharp single in the bottom of the inning to walk it off, dealing Palmyra a heartbreaking 12–11 loss.
Despite the tough finish, the Panthers’ offense was locked in. They racked up 13 hits, including multi-hit games from Ramey, Wisehart, Plunkett, Meyers, and Swisher. Moon, Wisehart, Meyers, and Plunkett each drove in a pair of runs.
Palmyra stayed aggressive on the bases with five steals and remained sharp on defense, once again committing zero errors.
Highlights:
13 team hits; 5 players with multi-hit games
5 stolen bases
5 walks drawn at the plate
0 defensive errors
Wisehart, Moon, Meyers, Plunkett: 2 RBIs each
Ramey: 2 more hits to cap off a standout day
Tournament Takeaways
From the opening pitch to the final walk-off, Palmyra showed the kind of spirit that can’t be measured by wins and losses. Veteran leadership from Ramey, Plunkett, and Wisehart continues to anchor the team, while young contributors like Meyers, Mitchell, Swisher, and Moon are rapidly gaining confidence and proving they belong.
