Palmyra Rallies Past Hallsville
Palmyra battled back from a five-run deficit Monday, April 20, scoring late to edge Hallsville 9-8.
Hallsville scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to build
a 5-0 lead before the Panthers answered in the bottom of the third. Palmyra tied the game with help from a double by Logan Kroeger, walks by Rafe Jones and Henley Snow, and a fielder’s choice by Max Heimer.
Hallsville briefly went back in front in the fourth, but Kroeger doubled to right after a six-pitch at-bat to tie the game at 6-6. After Hallsville regained the lead in the fifth, Palmyra tied it again on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.
The Panthers took their first lead in the sixth when Jones singled in a run to make it 8-7.
Hallsville tied the game in the top of the seventh, but Palmyra answered again to complete the comeback.
Ty Haskins earned the win for Palmyra, allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four. Brodie Webb also pitched in relief for the Panthers.
Palmyra finished with nine hits. Raeson Miller and Kroeger each had two hits, while Jones, Heimer and Kroeger each drove in two runs. The Panthers also drew nine walks, with Jones and Snow reaching twice by walk.
Bryant Horstmeier stole two bases.
