Marie Hudson Thorington, 94, of Palmyra, MO passed away at 2:36 AM, Monday, April 27, 2026, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, MO. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM, Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO. Deacon
Luke Mahsman will officiate. Burial willfollow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, MO. All are invited to attend.

from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Marie was born June 6, 1931, in Mark Bottom, Marion County, MO to Everett Cleveland Hudson and Anna Margaret Shear Hudson. She was married to James “Jim” Thorington on May 26, 1950, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2018.
Survivors include her children, Debra Maize of Palmyra, MO, Linda (Gerald) Janes of Palmyra, MO, and Jami (Gary) Wood of Palmyra, MO, sister, Alma Johnston of Hannibal, MO, brother, Ted (Theresa) Hudson of Palmyra, MO, grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Knapp, Travis Rice, Garret Rice, Lilly (David) Wise, Curtis (Addy) Gottman, Adam (Jessica) Gottman, Jacob (Hannah) Gottman, Joni (Brent) Bock, Hunter (Emma) Baggett, Cody Baggett, Erin (Philip) Krupps, and Emily Wood (Michael Copenhaver), 27 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Arthur Hudson, Margaret Hamilton, Kenneth Hudson, Clarence Hudson, Urban Hudson, Paul Hudson, Harold Hudson, Herman Hudson, Loretta Hudson and Gilbert Hudson.
Marie spent many years working at the shoe factory and later as a cashier at IGA and Ben Franklin. Family meant everything to Marie. She helped greatly with her grandchildren and attended all of their events, always showing up to support them. She loved her family deeply and took pride in caring for them.
Marie loved to laugh and joke. She was sassy, enjoyed teasing people and was just as happy to have it given right back to her. Her sense of humor and playful spirit made her a joy to be around.
Marie enjoyed fishing, embroidery, and playing cards. She loved watching Saturday Night Live, The Carol Burnett Show, and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and one of her favorite movies was An Affair to Remember. She was a faithful fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed many happy times at the Lake of the Ozarks.
She started her mornings with a good cup of black coffee and had a sweet tooth. Marie was a good cook and fixed a home-cooked meal every night, even after working all day. Fried chicken was a favorite. She also enjoyed listening to an array of music and dancing. Many will remember the times she and Jim danced the Jitterbug.
Marie will be remembered for her hardworking nature, her sharp wit, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Gottman, Travis Rice, Adam Gottman, Garrett Rice, Jake Gottman, and Hunter Baggett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald “Jump” Janes, Gary Wood, Jennifer Knapp, Kevin
Knapp, Lilly Wise, David Wise, Joni Bock, Brent Bock, Addy Gottman, Jessica Gottman, Hannah Gottman, Emma Baggett, Cody Baggett, Erin Krupps, Philip Krupps, Emily Wood, Michael Copenhaver, Alma Johnston, Ted Hudson and Theresa Hudson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Lawn Activities Fund or St. Joseph Cemetery.
