Palmyra Athletes Shine at MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 Track Meet

SHELBINA, MO — The MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 Track Meet at South Shelby High School on May 9, 2026, proved to be a thrilling day for Palmyra High School’s track and field teams, with several athletes securing spots in the upcoming Sectional meet.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Sectional competition next weekend, and Palmyra athletes showed impressive performances across multiple events.
Girls’ Standout Performers
On the girls’ side, Leah Pontius earned a 4th place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.65, qualifying for the Sectionals. In the 200-meter dash, Claire Swisher took 6th place with a time of 28.41 seconds, just missing out on advancing but still delivering a strong performance. Swisher also competed in the long jump, where she finished 6th with a leap of 4.63 meters.
The 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of Ivy James, Brylea Dorsey, Claire Swisher, and
Adeline Knochel, finished in 4th place with a time of 52.45 seconds, securing their place in the Sectional meet. The team also had success in the 4×200-meter relay, placing 4th in 1:50.65.
Gentry Moon had a strong showing in the 400-meter dash, finishing 9th with a time of 1:08.80, and also competed in the pole vault, where she placed 9th, clearing 2.4 meters. Other notable performances came from Adeline Knochel in the 100-meter hurdles (13th place, 20.86) and the 300-meter hurdles (17th place, 1:01.54).
The 4×800-meter relay team, while not advancing, finished 5th with a time of 11:01.97,
marking a commendable effort.
Boys’ Strong Performances
For the boys, Kason Augspurg had a standout day, winning the javelin with a throw of 51.68
meters and finishing 3rd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.41 seconds, ensuring his spot in the Sectionals. Luke Sheppard also had a great day, finishing 2nd in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.19 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (42.32 seconds), securing his place in Sectionals in both events.
The 4×100-meter relay team (Luke Sheppard, Pierce White, Behrett Lorenson, and Jayden
Klein) finished 3rd with a time of 45.55 seconds, advancing to the next round. The team also performed well in the 4×400-meter relay, finishing 3rd in 3:36.25.
Jaxon Gibson placed 5th in the long jump with a distance of 5.82 meters, while Behrett
Lorenson had an impressive 4th-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.25 meters. In
the discus, Jared Ridout took 5th place with a throw of 40.95 meters, while Ryan Poor competed in the javelin, throwing 25.27 meters.
