Marion County Drivers Advised of June Highway Restrictions and Ongoing Hannibal Street Closure
HANNIBAL, Mo. — Marion County motorists will encounter traffic impacts this month as highway maintenance work and a major construction project continue to affect travel routes in and around Hannibal.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), a lane restriction is planned for eastbound U.S. Route 36 on June 17 as crews perform patching operations. The work zone will stretch from U.S. Route 61 to Missouri Route 79, with traffic reduced during work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Drivers traveling through the area should anticipate slower traffic and possible delays while maintenance crews complete roadway improvements designed to extend the life of the highway surface.
In addition to the temporary lane restriction, motorists in Hannibal continue to navigate a long-term closure on northbound Missouri Route 79, commonly known as Mark Twain Avenue. The closure affects the section between North Street and Reservoir Street and is part of the city’s ongoing stormwater construction project.
The project, which began earlier this spring, is expected to remain in place through July 1. City officials and transportation crews have worked to improve stormwater infrastructure in the area, a project intended to enhance drainage and reduce future flooding concerns.
Updated information on road conditions, closures, and construction projects is available through MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map.
