Palmyra Panthers Roar Through the Week with Three Dominant Wins
The Palmyra Varsity Panthers put together one of their most complete weeks of baseball this season, going 3-0 with a mix of offensive firepower, lockdown pitching, and steady defense. With wins over Mendon Unity, Clark County, and Monroe City, the Panthers improved to 7-6 on the year and sent a clear message—they’re a team hitting their stride.
Pitching and Power Set the Tone vs. Mendon Unity
The week started on Monday with a crisp 5-0 shutout of Mendon Unity. Rylan Compton was in full command on the mound, going the distance with a seven-inning, five-hit shutout. The right-hander struck out four and walked just one, keeping Mendon Unity off balance all game.
Offensively, Palmyra struck late but struck hard. Tyler Spicknall and Cade Lehman each brought home runs in the fourth to break the scoreless tie, and the Panthers erupted in the fifth with four hits. Compton helped his own cause with an RBI double, and Logan Kroeger followed with a towering two-run homer to left that gave Palmyra all the breathing room it needed.
Kroeger led the team with two RBIs, while Raeson Miller and Ty Haskins each collected two hits in a clean, error-free outing from the Panthers’ defense.
Clark County Crushed by 18-Hit Barrage
If Monday was a quiet buildup, Tuesday was a full-on explosion. Palmyra crushed Clark County 15-0 behind a relentless offensive onslaught and another strong start—this time from Bryant Horstmeier.
Horstmeier was simply unstoppable. He went 3-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run, a double, and a single, while also pitching four shutout innings, striking out three, and allowing just two hits.
Palmyra jumped out early with Horstmeier’s leadoff blast and never looked back. Seven runs in the third and six more in the fourth buried Clark County. Raeson Miller had a huge day as well, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs, while Brodie Webb and Tyler Spicknall chipped in three hits apiece. The Panthers totaled 18 hits as a team and again played error-free baseball, making every inning feel like an uphill climb for their opponent.
Big Fifth Inning Seals Sweep vs. Monroe City
The week wrapped with another convincing win on Thursday, this time a 10-0 run-rule victory over Monroe City. After a quiet first few innings, Palmyra broke through with three runs in the fourth, then exploded for seven more in the fifth to end the game early.
Once again, it was Horstmeier and Miller driving the charge. Horstmeier doubled home two runs in the fifth, and Miller matched him with a two-run double of his own. Rylan Compton added another RBI double, and Colby Jones drove in a run with a single.
Jones also starred on the mound, throwing a five-inning, two-hit shutout while striking out five. He navigated some early walks but never let Monroe City find a rhythm. Miller finished the day with three RBIs and showed strong patience at the plate, drawing two of the team’s eight walks.
Finding Their Identity
Over three games, the Panthers outscored their opponents 30-0 and committed zero errors—proof of a team that’s not only dangerous with the bat, but also disciplined in the field and confident on the mound. With Horstmeier, Compton, and Jones anchoring the rotation and bats heating up throughout the lineup, Palmyra is proving they can win with power, precision, and poise.
As they prepare to face Hallsville next, the Panthers are playing with momentum and a renewed sense of purpose. The bats are hot, the arms are dealing, and the defense is locked in. Simply put, the Panthers are roaring at the right time.
