In the History of Marion County book there is a section that list some of the merchants of Palmyra in the 1800’s. One of the merchants was B. Zoller. He was known for having a good business and had carried a large stock of groceries in the city.
Mr. Zoller was born near Landan, Germany, in 1833. His parent’s name was Valentine and Barbara(Vollmer) Zoller of Germany. Mr. Zoller was educated in the country German school. At the age of 15 he learned the blacksmith trade. He went to Philadelphia, Penn., to engage at his trade for a time.
1852,he came to West Quincy Ill. And in the fall of that year came to Palmyra Mo .
When the war broke out, he enlisted in the Union Home Guards at Palmyra and served in the 22nd Missouri Infantry: was discharged at Keokuk, Iowa. He returned to Palmyra and started a, mercantile business. He married in Marion county to Miss Elizabeth Baum , of Palmyra. They had six children he was a member of the A.O.U.W., and the I.O.O.F and Sons of Temperance.
