The Palmyra Lady Panthers took on a demanding four-game stretch this past week, facing off against Elsberry, Macon, South Callaway, and Montgomery County. Though the week featured tough losses and moments of adversity, Palmyra displayed heart, determination, and a powerful offensive showing in a commanding win over South Callaway.
The week began with a narrow 6-4 loss to Elsberry on Monday. After falling behind by six runs, the Lady Panthers clawed back with a string of singles, a sacrifice bunt, and timely baserunning to close the gap. Riley Sutter threw six innings, allowing seven hits and six runs—only four of which were earned. Offensively, Palmyra was led by balanced production, with hits from Avery Wisehart, Jerzey Ramey, Morgan Pillars, Sutter, Gentry Moon, and Zola Meyers. Despite the late rally, Elsberry’s early home runs proved just enough to hold off the comeback.
On Thursday, Palmyra fell to Macon in a wild 21-8 contest that saw the Panthers jump out to a quick 4-0 lead after a four-run first inning. But Macon responded immediately with a 10-run second and never looked back. The Panthers used contributions from multiple players, with Sutter and Claire Swisher collecting two hits each. Palmyra’s defense struggled under pressure, and despite a double play and eight hits at the plate, they couldn’t recover from Macon’s relentless attack, which included 18 total hits and nine walks drawn.
Saturday brought redemption, as the Panthers turned in one of their best offensive performances of the season with an 18-4 win over South Callaway. Marney Plunkett was unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles. Palmyra scored 10 runs in the fourth inning alone, with key hits from Plunkett, Sutter, Meyers, Gracie Hammond, and Ramey. Meyers earned the win in the circle, striking out five across five innings, while the Panthers piled up 13 hits, six stolen bases, and flawless defense to seal the victory.
Palmyra wrapped up the busy stretch later that day with a 5-2 loss to Montgomery County. The Panthers took an early lead with a run in the second, but Montgomery County answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and never surrendered the advantage. Sutter threw a complete game, allowing five runs—all unearned—on just five hits. Pillars led the offense with two hits in four at-bats, but Montgomery’s dominant pitching and error-free defense proved the difference in the game.
Through the highs and lows, the Lady Panthers continued to fight, finding both lessons and confidence in a demanding week of competition. They’ll look to regroup and build momentum as they head into their next game at Highland on Monday.
