Mustangs Season Ends Against Raiders

Marion County took on North Shelby in the first round of the Class 1 District 11 Tournament on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at La Plata High School. The Mustangs lost, 64-32.
North Shelby took a 7-0 lead after Bo Bacon and Gannon Bowen each scored two points. Cole Browning followed with a 3 pointer with 5:20 on the clock.
Marion County’s Tyler Schimming put in a bucket and was fouled on the play. He was successful at the line. The Raiders led 7-3. Bacon went 2-for-2 from the free throw line and Wyatt Tuley was then sent to the line where he went 2-for-2. Drake Prange’s bucket extended the Raiders led, 11-5 with 2:31 on the clock.
Marion County would bring the score to 14-10 after Schimming and Gavin Handy each scored two points. With 47.0 seconds on the board, North Shelby’s Domenic Williams stole the ball and put in the easy layup. The Mustangs went 3-for-4 from the line ending the quarter, but the Raiders held a 17-13 advantage.
The second period was low scoring for both teams as they only scored six points each.
Bowen and TJ Belt shared the four points extending the Raiders lead to 21-13 with 5:35 on the clock. Hanady scored the Mustangs next four points bringing the score to 21-17. Prange and Belt each went 1-for-2 from the line to finish out the scoring for NS. Schimming hit a buzzer beater. North Shelby led 23-19 at halftime.
The Raiders put in impressive 24 points on the board in the third quarter. Within two minutes, North Shelby took a 34-19 advantage after Prange put in five points and Belt, Bowen and Bacon each scored a bucket.
Paden Olson scored the first points of the quarter for the Mustangs with 5:35 on the clock. Bowen then scored four points within 30 seconds and Prange wasn’t far behind with a bucket. Nathan Wright went 2-for-2 from the line with 2:40 on the clock and another bucket was put in by the Mustangs. NS held a 47-25 at the end of the third period.
The Raiders added 17 points the board in the final quarter. Williams stole the ball and looked to Prange for the successful play. Prange then scored a minute later.
With 6:37 on the clock, Olson scored for the Marion County. Bowen scored the next four points for the Raiders then Olson put in two points with 5:12 left in the game. NS held a 55-30 advantage.
Jay Miles put in a shot and was sent to the line. The three-point play was successful. Bacon scored the next bucket for NS. Dylan Stephens scored the last bucket of the game for Marion County. Finishing out the game, Cooper Belt scored the last four points for North Shelby.
Olson led Marion County with nine points. Tyler Schimming collected eight.
The Mustangs end their season 8-14.
