Palmyra Tops Dixon Behind Late Rally
Palmyra used a big seventh inning to pull away from Dixon for a 10-6 victory Saturday.
The Panthers started fast when Bryant Horstmeier doubled in the first inning and Logan Kroeger followed with a two-run home run to center field. Palmyra added two more in the second when Brodie Webb singled and Griffin Scifres battled through a long at-bat before hitting a two-run homer to center.
Palmyra pushed the lead to 6-0 in the third. Ty Haskins singled, Webb reached on an error, Scifres drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Rafe Jones doubled to right to score Scifres.
Dixon chipped away and tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth, but Palmyra answered in the seventh. Webb led off with a home run to left field to put the Panthers back in front. Scifres and Jones followed with singles, Max Heimer reached on an error, Rylan Compton singled in a run, Horstmeier added an RBI single and Kroeger drew a bases-
loaded walk.
Webb led Palmyra with three hits. Scifres and Kroeger each drove in three runs, while
Horstmeier, Jones and Raeson Miller each had two hits.
Haskins earned the win, throwing all seven innings. He allowed nine hits and six runs, four earned, while striking out three.
