Charles Fogle

Charles Fogle, 99, formerly of Palmyra, Mo., passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at his home in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Charles was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Palmyra, to Russell Sr. and Cornelia Schnitzer Fogle.

Survivors include his niece, Deborah Kubanis; nephews, Bradley J. McPike and Gregory McPike; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russell Fogle Jr.; sister, Margaret Fogle McPike; and nephew, Kevin Fogle.

Charles was born and raised in Palmyra, Mo., graduating from Palmyra High School in 1941 before going to Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. 

In 1943 Charles served his country by joining the navy during World War II. 

After the war Charles came home and earned his bachelor of science in chemistry from Iowa State University and began working for the

Atomic Energy Commission at Los Alamos, N.M. Charles then earned his master’s in chemistry from the University of Washington and began working for the Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation in Niagra Fall, N.Y. 

In 1960 Charles moved to Sunnyvale, Calif. where he made his home and worked in aerospace for the next 34 years until his retirement from the city of Sunnyvale in 1994.

 A graveside service with full military rites by American Legion Post #174 Boots-Dickson will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
