American Legion District 1 Meets
The first District of the American Legion Auxiliary met on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Emmett Shields Post #55 in Hannibal at 2 p.m. District President Linda Maddox called the meeting to order and then District Chaplain, Gail Dietrich gave an opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by the Preamble of the Constitution of ALA. Roll Call was answered by 14 members from 6 Units. Vice-President Michele Emmerich gave a report of the membership total in the District, with several Units near or over 100%. National Poppy Day is Friday, May 23, 2025. Please support your veterans and donate to volunteers distributing those poppys!
Gail Dietrich, Chaplain, reported 2 cards had been sent since our January meeting. We then had a poppy poster contest among the first place winners from two schools. There were 5 winners from one school at District competition winning $5.00 each. These 5 winners were sent on to Department for judging. It was moved and seconded to donate $25 to the Department PUFL fundraiser to help with the cost. President Linda asked that all members report to their Unit President their hours, money spent and mileage for the year. Then the President can report the summation within their Unit to the District President.
New business included selecting a new slate of officers for the ensuing two years. Michele Emmerich stepped down from her position. After much discussion, Carol Lockett, President of the Lewistown Unit volunteered to accept the Vice-President’s job. The remaining officers will stay the same. VP Michele made a beautiful patriotic afgan to donate to the Department’s on-line auction that begins middle of April and is available up to Department Convention.
