CENTRALIA, Mo. — Palmyra High School athletes made their mark at the MSHSAA Class 3 District 4 Track & Field Meet in Centralia on Saturday, with several standout performances earning spots at sectionals. The top four finishers in each event advanced, and six individual athletes and three relay teams from Palmyra rose to the occasion.
On the girls’ side, Leah Pontius ran a gritty race to place 4th in the 1600 meters (5:47.78), while Adyson Dorseypowered her way to a 3rd-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 9.69m. The girls’ 4×200 meter relay team also came up big, placing 3rd in 1:53.14 to move on.
For the boys, Daniel Dames sprinted to 4th in the 400 meters (52.69), and Luke Sheppard had a stellar day, advancing in two events—4th in the 110m hurdles (16.08) and 2nd in the high jump (1.90m). Evan Pennewellcleared 4.31m in the pole vault to earn a 3rd-place finish, while both the boys’ 4×100 and 4×200 meter relaysgrabbed 4th place finishes to secure sectional berths.
