Palmyra Opens Season with Comeback Win

Palmyra opened its season in dramatic fashion Saturday, rallying twice to defeat Fulton 10-8 in the first game of a two-game appearance at the Southern Boone
baseball cluster.
Fulton set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding single runs in the second and third to take a 4-0 lead.
Palmyra began to chip away in the third inning. Bryant Horstmeier delivered
an RBI single, and another run scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 4-2.
After a scoreless fourth, the Panthers erupted in the fifth inning. Raeson Miller
led off with a double, and Horstmeier followed with a run-scoring single. Logan Kroeger drew a walk  before Tate Haskins tied the game with an RBI single. Brodie Webb then reached on a play that allowed another run to score, and a sacrifice fly gave Palmyra its first lead.
Max Heimer capped the six-run outburst with a two-run single, putting the Panthers in front 8-4.
Fulton answered in the sixth, taking advantage of walks and a Palmyra error to tie the game at 8-8. Palmyra responded immediately in the bottom half. Miller reached with a single, and Kroeger came through with a go-ahead double. Webb
followed with another double to add an insurance run and give Palmyra a 10-8 lead.
Westin Jones shut the door in the seventh, working out of trouble to secure the win.
Palmyra finished with 10 hits on the day, with Horstmeier, Miller, and
Kroeger each collecting two. Webb and Heimer drove in key runs during the comeback effort.
The win marked a strong start to the season for Palmyra, which continued play
later in the day at the Southern Boone cluster.
