Horstmeier Sharp, Palmyra Pulls Away From Clark County
PALMYRA — A big second inning and a dominant outing on the mound from Brody Horstmeier powered Palmyra to a 10-3 win over Clark County on April 14.
Clark County battled back early, but Palmyra’s timely hitting and steady
pitching proved too much to overcome.
Palmyra seized control in the bottom of the second inning, taking advantage of timely hits and a pair of Clark County errors to build a 3-0 lead. The Panthers added three more runs in the third to stretch the margin after Clark County briefly tied the game.
The Indians’ best moment came in the third inning. Ryder Howe and Jaxon Noble helped spark the rally, and Eli Miller delivered a clutch two-run double to even the score. Grayson Holsted followed with an RBI single, giving Clark County life.
That momentum didn’t last long.Palmyra answered immediately in the
bottom half of the inning, using a run-scoring groundout and an RBI single from Rylan Compton to regain the lead at 6-3.
The Panthers continued to build their advantage late, highlighted by a two-run single from Griffin Scifres in the sixth inning.
Horstmeier was in control throughout, going the distance while allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out six and worked around four walks to
keep Clark County from mounting another comeback.
Clark County used multiple pitchers, with Bennett Plenge taking the start. The Indians allowed 14 hits overall, and early defensive miscues played a key role in the outcome.
At the plate, Howe and Holsted led Clark County with two hits each, while Miller drove in two runs. Corrick Hunziker reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Palmyra’s offense showed depth from top to bottom. Scifres and Ty Haskins each collected three hits, while Compton and Horstmeier added multiple-hit performances. The Panthers also applied pressure on the bases, swiping four steals.
